Its her first tooth!!
Elly cut her FIRST TOOTH!!
Which would explain the puddles of drool and the sleepless nights... but she's also been sick for the past two weeks with a cold and I had my short but annoying bout with it as well. Mimi and Zix are starting to show symptoms, which means I should probably gear-up for round two for me!! (yeaaah!)
Mimi, got up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night for the first time on Saturday, I guess this means she's fully toilet trained. One down two more to go. Zix did #2 on the toilet for the first time last night too. Its been a weekend of toilet victories. They are growing up so fast. I was even talking to my husband about the girls weddings....he set me straight quickly by reminding me that Elly needed diapers...LOL

Since September ALOT has changed...
Now into the mix we have added a third member 'Nana' as her brother affectionately calls her. She's our very busy 6 month old. It never ceases to amaze HOW MUCH she can actually do and even more amazing how much she attempts to do. She is small in stature but I don't think she realizes that she is the smallest one, because she gets down, rough and tumble with rest of them. She has already sustained accidental kicks and hits, sometimes in the face, sometimes she's been fallen on (by her big very ACTIVE brother) and she kinda just shrugs them off...sometimes she'll squeal (as if to say "hey buddy, watch IT!) but she is really a tough cookie.
She's already trying to ...get this... STAND UP (what?) Yes, she's trying to get and run with these guys I guess. For the most part she's still tummy cruising and is very quick and determined! I WISH I had video evidence of her awesomeness... Hope you don't mind as I gush about her for a while...she just cut her FIRST tooth and I think its to accomodate the LION sized appetite that she has. Needless to say my nursing career with this one is pretty much drawing to a close.
On to the other little sweeties...Mimi: I often have to remind myself that she is only 3, because she speaks to me in such a mature way, I find that I forget that she still doesn't have reasoning capacity past her age. But I love going out with her on our mall adventures, she is so much fun! We have decided to homeschool and now she's learning phonics and a little math. She caught on so quickly and as a result she sounds out almost EVERY word she says and tells which letter they start with. She is positively excited to learn and she can 'read' quite few three letter words and sound a few of them out as well. She is such a burst of sunshine!
Zix: He loves to tell knock-knock jokes. Well only one in particular, it goes like this'
Knock, knock
Who's there?
Nana (banana)
Nana who?
OOh! (orange)
(then he repeat about this about 3 or 4 times and then laughs really hard)
He's about a week away from being 2, and he is really starting to speak more. He still likes to make the sounds of most things, but strangers can even understand some of his words and he's starting put two words together. His favorite passtime is making spit bubbles though. Why...I just don't know, and he makes on by accident, he gets really excited and starts making them again.
I'll try to be more regular, so that I don't write a novel per post but...there's a brief summary of my infant-toddler-preschooler experience in the last little while!

Who says Mugs are just for Coffee?

I have debated long and hard with myself if I should lead many down the this path but I can't resist!! This little treat is SO delish I have to share. **WARNING** don't make this more than once a day, it could be detrimental to your hips and waist line.
What You Will Need:
6 TBSP flour
4 TBSP sugar
1/8 TSP baking powder
TINY pinch of salt
3 TBSP water
3 TBSP vegetable oil
1 egg
DASH of vanilla extract (or whatever flavor you like)
1 Large Mug
I mixed the wet ingredients together before adding them to the dry. And just mix EVERYTHING until you have a smooth batter
Pop that 'bad boy' into the microwave for 3 minutes (1000 watts). Let cool and ENJOY!!
This can easily serve 2 to 4 people. But if you eat the whole thing by yourself...your secret is safe with me!!
My chicKIDees loved it, and me too (maybe a little too much)

A Cookie you can feel good about giving your little people!!

I love Raisin Oatmeal Cookies, but not so much in love with all the butter and sugar that goes into making them. So I happened upon this 'Toddler Oatmeal Raisin Cookie" (courtesy of Canadian Parents Website) They turned out a little different from what I expected, but the were soft and chewy enough for even Zix to enjoy with his five and half teeth. The bonus: NO butter, not alot of sugar and loaded with good stuff for your little people and even YOU!!
So here are the 'gredients and directions:
INGREDIENTS
1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup rolled oats
3/4 tablespoons baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup of apple juice concentrate (I used regular apple juice and added 1/4 cup of white sugar)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 whole egg -or- 2 egg whites
3/4 cup raisins
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degree (farenhiet) and coat cookie sheet(s) with vegetable cooking spray
- Mix flour, wheat germ, oats, baking powder, cinnamon and sugar (if adding it) in a large mixing bowl.
- Combine juice, oil, egg and raisins in a blender
- Blend until raisins are chopped. Pour mixture into dry ingredients and stir together
- Drop batter by heaping teaspoons (the measuring teaspoons not regular teaspoon)
- Bake, being very careful not to let cookies brown and become crispy - About 8 to 10 minutes
Let the cookies stand and cool for a few minutes (until you can at least touch the baking sheet without getting burned) and place them into a plastic bag. Do not seal bag until cookies are completely cooled off (This step is to keep the cookies from getting dry and hard.)
And there you have it!!
I loved these cookies and so did my little people, I would definately make them again! Warning, they are not as sweet as regular cookies, but it sure does feel good knowing that I'm giving them cookies chalked full of goodness!!

Playpen Escape

I guess he had enough of being confined in the minimal square footage of the play yard when all of a sudden Mimi came rushing into the washroom (where I was doing my hair) and with a tone of panic in her voice "Mommy, look what happened!!"
Seconds prior to that I heard a crash of toys, but I hear the noise so often that I've become immune to it, unless its followed by blood-curdling screams. Anyway, I come rushing out of the washroom, to investigate what the panic was about...
and who do I see walking my way with tears streaming down his face... Zix, whom by the way was supposed to be playing with the toys that were selected with care for his stay in the play yard!
Needless to say, I knew this day was coming!! He climbs on just about anything he can get his toes dug into...so today he finally made the great Play Yard escape...I just hope he doesn't pull that stunt in the middle of night and try to make a Crib Prison Break, but I have seen him plotting, think I'm going to have to post some surveillance guards to make sure he doesn't make it too far!

LOL....
So Mimi is up to her tricks again!
Last week, she was on the toilet and she called me into the washroom with a sound of urgency in her voice. I ran, because I thought she may have been finished and need some help cleaning up.
But when I got there she wanted to share something with me. The conversation went like this:
ME: Yes baby, are you done?
MIMI: No, mommy...
Me: Ok, do you want me help stay?
Mimi: No mommy, I still need to make a poo-poo
Me: Ok, honey, call me when you're done
Mimi: Ok, mommy, I want to make a big, big, big, huge ice cream poo-poo
Did she just say "ice cream poo-poo?" Honestly, I don't where she got that one from, and for the record, it was of an ice creamy consistency...LOL

A Little Working out before bed...
Last night my little lady was gearing up for bed and the unexpectedly pulls out my excercise mat and weights, laid down on her back and proceeded to pick up the weights and extend her arms above her chest and did a complete chest press. As she pumped her arms, she exhaled as if she were really feeling the strain of the workout. Then she looked over at me, and asked "Mommy, like this?"
Its amazing what your children are actually recording. Even more surprising is what they actually end up doing!
